1. Introduction

Alt Text Pro (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a Shopify application that helps merchants generate, review, and manage alternative text for images in their Shopify stores.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Alt Text Pro accesses, how it is used, how it may be stored, and how it is handled.

2. Information We Access

To provide the service, Alt Text Pro may access:

Store name and store URL
Product, collection, blog, and content file images
Basic product information used to generate alt text, such as product title, product type, and vendor
Existing alt text associated with images
Information required to manage your Alt Text Pro subscription and usage
Information required to process and manage AI-generated alt text

We only access information that is necessary to provide the application’s functionality.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

Alt Text Pro does not:

Collect customer personal data
Access customer orders
Access customer payment information
Collect customer names, email addresses, or physical addresses
Track visitors to your Shopify store

4. How We Use Information

We use store information to:

Scan your store and identify images that may require alt text
Generate alt text using product information, templates, or AI
Allow you to review and edit generated alt text
Save approved alt text to your Shopify store
Manage AI generation usage and subscription allowances
Manage subscription-related functionality
Provide technical support when requested
Maintain and improve the operation and reliability of the service

We do not sell or rent merchant information.

5. Data Storage and Retention

Alt Text Pro does not permanently store your store’s images for general use.

Images may be temporarily processed when required to generate AI-based alt text. We retain only the information reasonably necessary to operate the application, manage subscriptions and usage, provide support, maintain records, and operate applicable application features.

This information may include:

Store and connection information
AI generation records and usage information
Subscription and plan information
Records required to manage AI-generated alt text and applicable plan limits
Records required for support, security, and service operation

Retention periods may vary depending on the purpose for which the information is required.

When the app is uninstalled, Shopify access permissions are revoked and Alt Text Pro can no longer access your Shopify store through the application. Certain information may be retained for legitimate operational, security, accounting, legal, or support purposes where necessary.

6. AI-Generated Alt Text and Plan Changes

When AI is used to generate alt text, Alt Text Pro may maintain records associated with the generated content and the applicable plan allowance.

If a merchant downgrades from a higher plan to a lower plan, AI-generated alt text from the applicable billing cycle may be subject to the allowance of the new plan.

Where the amount of applicable AI-generated alt text exceeds the new plan’s allowance, the excess AI-generated alt text may be removed within 24 hours of the downgrade.

Where previous alt text existed before the AI-generated alt text was added, the previous alt text may be restored. Where no previous alt text existed, the AI-generated alt text may be removed.

If the merchant returns to the previous plan within the applicable 24-hour period, the removal process may not proceed.

This policy does not apply to:

Existing customers covered by an applicable exemption
Alt text manually edited by the merchant
AI-generated alt text from earlier billing cycles
Title-based alt text
Complimentary access or credits
Actions resulting solely from uninstalling the application

The applicable plan allowance and related conditions are presented within the application.

7. Third-Party AI Services

If you choose to generate alt text using AI, the relevant image and necessary contextual information may be sent to a third-party AI provider, such as Google, to generate the requested description.

The information is used to provide the requested AI functionality and is handled according to the applicable third-party provider’s policies.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable security measures designed to protect information handled by Alt Text Pro and follow applicable Shopify API and platform requirements.

However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date.

10. Limitation of Responsibility

Alt Text Pro is provided as a software service to assist merchants with image accessibility and SEO. It does not guarantee accessibility compliance, legal compliance, search-engine rankings, traffic, or any particular business outcome.

EcomBack and its related organizations, affiliates, personnel, service providers, and representatives are not responsible or liable for claims, losses, damages, penalties, accessibility outcomes, SEO results, legal or regulatory requirements, business losses, or other consequences arising from the use of, reliance on, or inability to use Alt Text Pro, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
