The ADA Website Accessibility Lawsuit Report, June 2026.
In June, 267 ADA website lawsuits were filed. A 16% drop, yet still roughly 9 new filings every single day.
The litigation stayed clustered in five states. New York led for the first time this year, with nearly a third of all cases, followed by Florida, Pennsylvania, California, and Illinois. Together, almost 90% of all filings.
Just 14 plaintiffs were behind more than half of all lawsuits. A small group of repeat filers, led by Michael Sandoval and Blair Douglass, drives the majority of activity.
The pattern holds for law firms. 11 firms accounted for over 80% of filings, led by Gottlieb and Associates and Manning Law. For the first time, Equal Access dropped to 5th place among the top law firms.
Eight industries made up 91% of lawsuits. Fashion and apparel led by a wide margin, and together with food and beverage, represented more than half of total cases.
Shopify alone absorbed more than half of all filings. But remember, compliance responsibility always rests with the site owner, never the platform.
And a critical warning: nearly 24% of lawsuits targeted sites that already had an accessibility widget installed. A widget is not a shield.
A new front is opening. Website privacy demands, built on California's decades-old CIPA statute, are accusing businesses of wiretapping through everyday cookies and tracking, with penalties up to $5,000 per violation.

ADA Lawsuits Filed Against Website Platforms in June 2026
Website platforms play a critical role in enabling businesses to build and manage their digital presence. While many platforms offer accessibility features and third-party tools, ADA website accessibility lawsuits can still occur when accessibility is not effectively incorporated into the overall user experience.
Ultimately, responsibility for ADA compliance rests with the website owner. Accessibility tools can support compliance efforts, but they are not a substitute for comprehensive accessibility practices. Achieving and maintaining compliance requires proper implementation, regular testing, ongoing maintenance, and continuous monitoring to ensure websites remain accessible to all users.

Accessibility Widget-Related Lawsuits in June 2026
A notable 23.97% of lawsuits involved websites using accessibility widgets, with 64 of the 267 ADA website lawsuits filed in June 2026 involving websites that used accessibility widgets. This continues to reflect concerns about whether widget-based solutions adequately address website accessibility requirements.
An accessibility widget alone does not replace code-level remediation, manual testing, testing with assistive technology, documentation, and ongoing maintenance. Businesses relying solely on widget-based tools should evaluate whether their websites remain accessible to real users of assistive technology.
